Privacy policy
In short: no tracking, no analytics, no advertising, nothing loaded from third-party servers. What a visit to this website does involve is described here.
1. Controller
The controller for data processing on this website and in the Trace Hub (section 7) within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Denis ReicheltLindersteig 9
99090 Erfurt
Germany
Email: support@trace-analyzer.net
2. Overview
This website is a static information site. It uses no analytics, tracking or advertising tools, embeds no social media plugins and loads nothing from third-party servers: fonts, images and videos are served from the same server as the page itself. There is no contact form and no user account on this website.
3. Hosting and server log files
The website runs on a server provided by
Hostinger International Ltd.
61 Lordou Vironos Street
6023 Larnaca
Cyprus
A data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place with this provider.
Whenever a page is requested, the server necessarily processes the following data:
- IP address of the requesting device,
- date and time of the request,
- requested address and HTTP status code,
- amount of data transferred,
- previously visited page (referrer), if your browser sends it,
- browser and operating system (user agent).
The purpose is to deliver the website, keep it secure (for example by detecting and fending off attacks) and analyse errors. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is secure and reliable operation. Where this data is stored in log files, it is deleted after 14 days at the latest — longer only if a specific security incident has to be investigated, and then until that investigation is complete. The data is not combined with other data and not used for profiling.
The connection is encrypted with TLS (HTTPS).
4. Storing your language choice
If you pick a language with the language switch, your browser stores that choice (en or de) under the name trace-lang in local storage (localStorage) and as a cookie that lasts one year. The browser sends the cookie on later visits so the server can take you straight to the chosen language. It contains nothing but the language code; the server reads it only for this redirect and does not log it. Without a stored choice, the redirect follows your browser's language setting (the Accept-Language header), which is not stored either.
Storing it is strictly necessary to provide the service you explicitly asked for — showing the site in your chosen language (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG); the legal basis for any further processing is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. Nothing is stored unless you use the switch. You can delete the entries at any time in your browser settings.
5. Contact by email
If you email me, I process your email address, your name (if given) and the content of your message in order to answer your request. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR where your request concerns a contract (such as access to the service), otherwise Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR — my legitimate interest is answering you. I delete messages once the request has been dealt with, unless statutory retention obligations (for example under commercial or tax law) apply.
6. In-browser calculators
The tools (such as the Modbus CRC calculator) run entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter there is sent to the server.
7. Trace Hub and guest access
The links “Hub sign-in” and “Try it without signing in” lead to the Trace Hub at hub.trace-analyzer.net. The hub runs on the same server with the same provider as this website, and the controller is the same (section 1). Sections 3 (hosting and server log files), 8 (your rights) and 9 apply to the hub accordingly. For guest access, the hub’s own log contains no IP addresses, only the guest account’s random identifier.
What the hub additionally processes for a guest access — the guest account, your recording, the protection against abuse and its cookies —, on which legal basis and when it deletes it is stated under “What is stored” at hub.trace-analyzer.net/try?info=1. You can read that page without a guest access starting; during a guest access it is linked from the guest band on the hub’s pages.
AI draft of an interpreter
Signed-in users of the hub can have an AI draft an interpreter from a protocol specification. Only after you have confirmed for the individual job that you may pass the document on, the hub transmits the uploaded document, the protocol name, your notes and any example bytes you entered to Anthropic PBC, 548 Market Street, PMB 90375, San Francisco, CA 94104, USA, the provider of the AI model used. Processing there takes place in the USA. Your name, e-mail address and other account data are not sent.
The legal basis is the performance of the service you ordered (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). The transfer to the USA is covered by the safeguards Anthropic offers to customers in the EU (standard contractual clauses under Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR). Under Anthropic’s commercial terms, content sent through its programming interface is not used to train models; according to Anthropic, it is kept only for a limited time, for example to detect abuse.
On the hub, the document is kept until the job ends and for seven days after that, so you can retrace the result. If you remove the job or delete your account, it is deleted immediately. For billing, the hub stores per job the usage (tokens and credits), times and the result.
Whether you may pass a document on — for example a specification under a non-disclosure agreement or a document with personal data of third parties — is your decision alone. The hub does not check this.
8. Your rights
You have the right to
- access the data stored about you (Art. 15 GDPR),
- have inaccurate data rectified (Art. 16 GDPR),
- erasure (Art. 17 GDPR),
- restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR),
- data portability (Art. 20 GDPR).
Right to object
Where processing is based on Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, you may object to it at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21 GDPR). An informal message to support@trace-analyzer.net is sufficient.
Right to lodge a complaint
You may lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for me is:
Thuringian State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (TLfDI)
Haesslerstrasse 8
99096 Erfurt
Germany
www.tlfdi.de
9. Obligation to provide data, automated decisions
You are under no statutory or contractual obligation to provide data. Without the technical data listed in section 3, however, the website cannot be delivered, and without the hub’s cookies (section 7) no guest access can be provided. No automated decision-making, including profiling, takes place.
10. Changes
If the website or the legal situation changes, I will update this policy. The version published here applies.
